CG Ong Siew Gay made an introductory visit to Yiwu and Jinhua City on 23-24 October 2012, accompanied by officials from IES and IDA.
In Yiwu, CG called on Yiwu Party Secretary Huang Zhiping and was hosted to dinner. CG shared with Huang how Yiwu could leverage on Singapore's e-logistics expertise to further its vision of becoming a test bed for international integrated trade in China.
CG Ong also visited Qingyanliu Village, known as China's leading "Taobao Village" . At present, there are reportedly about 2,000 companies in the village delivering around 10,000 parcels every day, with annual sales of about 800 million yuan (US$126 million).
In addition, CG Ong also visited the Jiangdong E-Commerce Technology Park, an incubator and training school for companies planning to go into e-commerce and the Yiwu Interntional Trade and Commerce City.
In Jinhua City, CG Ong called on Jinhua Mayor Xu Jiaai and was hosted to lunch. Both sides exchanged views on how to further bilateral cooperation. CG Ong also visited two leading SMEs in Jinhua dealing with precision electronics and e-commerce.
