Minister Heng Swee Keat was in Taizhou to co-chair the 6th Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council (SJCC) meeting with Jiangsu Governor Li Xueyong on 20 September 2012.
At the annual meeting, 15 MOUs with a combined value of S$1.5 billion were signed, spanning sectors such as environmental protection, MRT integrated supervisory control systems, integrated mixed-use developments and R&D collaboration. Of particular note was the MOU with the Nanjing government on the formation of the Singapore-Nanjing Special Projects Cooperation Panel to facilitate collaboration on significant projects of mutual interest such as the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) and the Singapore-Nanjing Eco Hi-Tech Island. The panel would be led by MOS (Trade & Industry) Teo Ser Luck, Nanjing Party Secretary Yang Weize and Nanjing Mayor Ji Jianye.
IE Singapore also signed a MOU with the Jiangsu Environment Protection Department (EPD) on strengthening collaboration in technical training exchanges and information-sharing sessions.
Besides Taizhou, Minister Heng also visited Nanjing and Wuxi during the four-day visit and met with key provincial and municipal leaders including Jiangsu Party Secretary Luo Zhijun and Jiangsu Governor Li Xueyong. Minister Heng was accompanied by Vice co-chair of the SJCC MOS Teo Ser Luck, CG Ong Siew Gay, and a delegation of more than 50 members from the government and business sectors.
