The Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Shanghai has been informed that some members of the public have received calls from people claiming to be from the Consulate-General. The impersonators would bear the caller ID of our office general line (+86 021 6278 5566), and typically mention passport and/or immigration issues.
While the Consulate-General is gathering more information on this matter, members of the public may wish to take the following precautionary advice:
Do not trust someone just because the caller mentioned your name or NRIC.
Do not transfer money or disclose your personal details to unknown persons.
Do verify the email domains of any emails claiming to be from the Consulate-General.
For calls initiated by the Consulate-General, we would usually follow up with an email sent using email domains ending with “https://www.mfa.gov.sg”.
If you are in doubt, you may verify the authenticity of the calls by emailing us at singcg_sha@mfa.sg.
The Consulate-General will NOT ask members of the public to do the following over the phone:
Transfer money;
Disclose bank details;
Install mobile apps from unofficial app stores;
Transfer your call directly to a third party (whether Police or otherwise)
If you do receive such calls and verified that it is an impersonation call, please report the case to the local Police and/or the Singapore Police Force (via this link) depending on where you received the call. If you are in Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai or Zhejiang, you can also reach out to us at our general line (+86 021 6278 5566) or email us at singcg_sha@mfa.sg.
Thank you for your kind attention.
